Brown the curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame declared the following: John Denver was by far one of the most popular musicians who was a symbol of Colorado. Denver was a member of the Hall of Fame as its the first member in 2011. Denver is a symbol of the state for people worldwide. When I travel, I always encounter someone on the other part of the globe, or someone of New Zealand and you say "I'm of Colorado and the very first thing that comes that comes out of their mouths is Oh John Denver! Brown stated. Denver's first Top 10 hit as a solo artist after a brief time in folk-based groups was Take Me Home Country Roads co-written with Bill Danoff. Danoff had originally written the tune to Johnny Cash's tune in mind, but Denver realized from the first time he heard the early versions that the song could be a huge success. The song was recorded just several weeks after the Washington D.C. performance.
